A man had a lucky escape yesterday after his country cottage was destroyed by fire.

The sole occupant of the property near Kilfenora escaped injury.
Two units of the fire brigade from Ennistymon and an appliance from Ennis responded to the incident when the alarm was raised at around 4.00pm.
Gardaí and the ambulance service were also alerted.
The house, located off the main road between Ennistymon and Kilfenora, was gutted in the blaze.
Fire crews checked to ensure the man was uninjured and did not require medical attention. They found that he was unharmed but shaken.
The fire is understood to have started accidentally.
