A man has died after being found collapsed on a beach in Kilkee.
He was discovered on the water’s edge at the West Clare town shortly before five yesterday evening and pronounced dead shortly after being airlifted to hospital.
Its the second time the coastguard’s been called into deal with a medical emergency in Kilkee in the past 8 days and the third water related death in the county.
It’s understood the man believed in his early 60’s and from the Shannon area had been holidaying locally and had been swimming in the water earlier in the day.
He was spotted on the edge of the water at around 4.55 and two lifeguards began efforts to resuscitate him before he was airlifted to hospital by the Shannon Coastguard Helicopter but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Kilkee Coastguard Unit was also involved in the operation.
A post-mortem is due to be carried out today to determine whether the man drowned or suffered a suspected heart attack.

On July 7th a man in his 70’s from Limerick suffered a suspected heart attack in the water and was pronounced dead a short time later.
