Man Dies In Sixmilebridge Road Crash

A man has died in a traffic accident near Sixmilebridge.

The single-vehicle collision occurred near Minister’s Cross on the R471 Sixmilebridge to Shannon Road at around 4:00 this morning.

The man, believed to be in his late twenties, was the only occupant of the car.

Gardaí and emergency services, including two units of the fire service from Shannon, were called to the scene where the man was pronounced dead.

His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

The road remains sealed off this morning as Gardaí carry out a forensic examination of the scene, and it is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.

Meanwhile, Gardaí in Westmeath are appealing for witnesses after a man in his thirties died in a motorcycle crash.

The 36-year old died after the motorbike he was driving struck a stone pillar on the old N6 road at Gaulstown before 8 o’clock yesterday evening.
