The body of the victim – who was the only person in the house at the time – has been removed to Letterkenny General Hospital for a post mortem.

Gardaí are examining the scene this afternoon – but are not treating the fire as suspicious.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man was killed in a road crash in Donegal last night.

The two vehicle collision -involving a car and a van- happened at Brenter in Dunkineely shortly before 11 o’clock.

The 30-year-old driver of the van was killed while the 21-year-old man who was driving the car suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed for a time this morning to allow for a forensic examination but has since re-opened to traffic.
