The single-car collision happened on the Ennis Road at the Clondrinagh roundabout, near Coonagh, around 2.30 this morning.

The driver, a man in his thirties, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, but has since been transferred to Cork University Hospital for specialist treatment.

The road remains closed to facilitate a garda forensic examination, with diversions via the old Cratloe Road.

Gardaí are advising motorists travelling from Clare into Limerick, however, that delays can be avoided by travelling through the Limerick Tunnel and taking the Dock Road exit into the city.
