Frederick or 'Freddie' Thompson, who’s from Loreto Road in Maryland, Dublin 8 arrived in court this morning under heavy armed guard.

David ‘Daithi’ Douglas died after being shot six times outside his wife’s shop on Bridgefoot Street in Dublin’s south inner city on July 1st.

The father-of-one was approached by a lone gunman and shot in the head and chest just after 4pm.

Freddie Thompson was arrested in Dublin and charged with Mr. Douglas’ murder over the weekend.

The 35-year-old appeared before Judge David Waters this morning.

Four prison officers accompanied him into the court room and he could be seen gesturing to a woman in the public gallery during his brief appearance.

He seemed to be indicating that he would call her.

Detective Inspector Paul Cleary told Judge Waters he said “no comment” when the charge was first put to him on Saturday evening.

Bail applications for people accused of murder can only be heard before a High Court judge so he was remanded in custody until Friday.
