Michael Folan, from Teach Mór, Lettermullen, Co Galway, had denied a charge of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Noel Hill from Lisseycasey at Tí Padraig Mairtín Beag in Leitir Mór, Connemara on St Stephen's Day, 2008.
However, at Galway Circuit Criminal Court last evening, Mr Folan changed his plea to guilty.
He has now been remanded on bail to re-appear in court on February 18th next for sentence.
