A 35-year-old man has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm in Co Kildare at the weekend.
Gardaí told Naas District Court that Paul Gill – with an address on Sarto Road in Naas – is accused of punching and kicking 58-year-old Patsy Kelly in the town on Saturday.
Mr Kelly was removed to Naas General Hospital where he later died.
Judge Patrick Clyne remanded Mr Gill in custody at Cloverhill prison until a further bail hearing on Thursday – with a number of conditions already approved – including that Mr Gill surrender his passport; stay away from Naas and make no contact with any witnesses in the case.
Gardaí say they expect a more serious charge to follow.
