A man and a child have been killed in a two-vehicle crash in County Limerick.
A car and a truck collided on the main Limerick to Tipperary road this morning, and Gardaí are now said to be investigating whether there is a link with an earlier assault in the area.
Separately, two people have been injured in a crash in North Clare.
A man and a boy, believed to be his son, lost their lives after the car they were travelling in colldied with a truck on the N24 near Pallasgreen around 8.30 this morning.
They were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the truck was uninjured.
The road will remain closed for most of the day to facilitate a forensic examination and local diversions will be in place.
Gardaí are understood to be investigating whether the crash is linked to an earlier assault on a woman in the nearby village of Oola. A woman was taken to hospital, reportedly with stab injuries, following that incident.
Separately today, two people have been taken to hospital following a crash in north Clare this morning.
The two tourists were travelling in a car that collided head-on with 4×4 vehicle at Toornahooan near Doolin at around 9.45am.
The two male occupants of the rental car have been taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where they're being treated for their injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle escaped injury.
