Man Airlifted To Hospital Following Body-Boarding Accident Near Doonbeg

A man has been airlifted to hospital after he was injured while body-boarding off Co Clare this morning.

The man in his 30’s got into difficulty on a world famous wave at around 9.30am.

Riley’s Wave, in Ballard Bay near Doonbeg, attracts surfers and body-boarders from all over the world.

A man got into difficulty there around 9.30am this morning and other body-boarders and surfers helped the injured man from the water and onto the rocks while the alarm was raised.

The Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard and the ambulance service were alerted and responded to the incident.

The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter winched the injured man on board and airlifted him to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
