There’s been a 65 percent increase in the number of people reporting allegations of social welfare fraud.

Last year – 28 thousand reports of suspected fraud were made to the Department of Social Welfare – up from 17 thousand the previous year.
The department made savings of 669 million euro through a clampdown on social welfare fraud last year – the bulk of which were for one parent family payments, pensions, and job seekers benefit.
