Major Plan To Ease Overcrowding At UHL Unveiled

Management in the UL Hospitals group have unveiled what they describe as a "comprehensive plan" aimed at minimizing overcrowding at the region's Emergency Department.

Dubbed the "Winter Resilience Plan", the strategy covers all hospitals across the group, including Ennis General.

New beds being opened next month will increase overall capacity by 30 while patients, including some from Clare, will be treated at a five-day speciality geriatric ward that is to open at St. John's in Limerick.

Extra staff are also being hired and CEO of the UL Hospitals Group Colette Cowan says every effort will be made to reduce waiting times.
