The opening of a new major supermarket in Ennis is expected to provide a major boost to the local economy.
ALDI opened its second store in the county town today, which has brought with it significant employment.
The new 1,000sq metre premises on the Kilrush Road represents a €4m investment in the town and has created 30 permanent jobs.
ALDI took the decision to open the new store based on the growing population density of the area and the performance of its Francis Street store, which is among the retailer’s most successful in the country.
These local residents were among the first customers to enter the new store and have been hailing the latest addition to their community.
Shirley from Kilrush also made the trip to the county town to take in the excitement.
She says while the businesses will provide an essential boost to the county, she’s reminding people of the importance of supporting small retailers and family run businesses in the locality too.
Last year, ALDI spent over €1m with Clare producers and over €3.2m on employee wages in this county.
Store Manager Tomas Derala insists there could be further jobs created down the line as well.
