Mahon Report Findings

The final report of the Mahon tribunal has rejected Bertie Ahern’s version of the source of his finances.

While it stops short of making a finding of corruption against the former Taoiseach, it says he failed to truthfully account for the source of lodgements made to his bank account.

It also says that because of that, the tribunal has not been able to identify where the money came from.

Judge Alan Mahon also says that much of the explanation provided by Mr Ahern about his funds was deemed by his tribunal to be untrue.

The Mahon Tribunal report also concludes that a number of senior political figures accepted corrupt payments in relation to planning.

It says former Minister and European Commissioner Padraig Flynn and former TD Liam Lawlor – were among those to seek inappropriate payments.
