Macron To Be Inaugurated On Sunday

Emmanuel Macron will be inaugurated next Sunday as the new President of France.

France’s pro-EU president-elect is said to be preparing the groundwork for his transition to power.

In the run-off yesterday, Macron convincingly beat Marine Le Pen winning just over 65 percent of the vote.

The pro-EU centrist Emmanuel Macron – who convincingly beat the far right’s Marine Le Pen in the run-off – says he’ll use his time in office to unite the divided country.

Macron surpassed all predictions by winning won 65.8 per cent of the vote, to 34.2 per cent for Ms Le Pen, according to estimates.

In this country, the news has been widely welcomed adn President Michael D Higgins has written to the 39-year-old wishing him a ‘fruitful presidency’.

On the streets of Paris, celebrations have been low key, but largely positive.

Macron was also the runaway winner among Irish voters in the Presidential election.

Almost 4,000 French citizens based here cast their votes at special polling stations.

Macron won just under 90 per cent of their votes.

While some concerns had been voiced in this country over possible plans by Macron to question Ireland’s corporation tax policy, he’s widely seen as a preferable alternative to the protectionist Le Pen.
