Locals in West Clare insist Doonbeg would be ‘decimated’ without the Trump Organisation.
The former President of the United States, Donald Trump, and his family are to stay at his Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in the village at the end of August.
The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump will arrive in West Clare at the end of the month in his first visit to Ireland in three years.
The businessman last visited his resort in Doonbeg in 2019 ahead of his presidential campaign the following year.
Mr. Trump has visited Clare on several occasions before, having previously stayed at his Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in a private capacity in 2015.
Doonbeg residents are calling for the Trump Organisation to be embraced given the village’s economic reliance on the five-star facility.
It comes as the 2019 presidential visit was marred by some anti-Trump sentiment.
Doonbeg native Michael O’Doherty says the significant investment from the Trump family can’t be politicised.
A member of the Doughmore Coastal Protection Group believes everything must be done to protect investment in rural areas.
Doonbeg resident Liam Ryan says that sustaining industry in West and North Clare has proved challenging.
He insists the Trump facility is vital in securing employment in the area.
