Proposals for a Business Improvement District to create new jobs in Ennis will depend on local traders funding such an initiative, after Ennis Town Council said it failed to see the benefit of such a move.
The BID initiative is based on a partnership approach between the council and the local business community, and would require extra rates contributions towards a community development fund for the town.
Given the fact that many Clare rate payers are struggling to meet their bills, and the local authority is coping with reduced budgets, Ennis Town Council has ruled out the move, but councillor Johnny Flynn says it’s something that should be considered in future.
