The company behind a proposed 100 million euro Windfarm development in West Clare have the option of seeking a judicial review after the project was rejected by An Bord Pleanala.
Clare Coastal Windpower Limited were seeking 10 year planning permission for the construction of 46 turbines in several townlands around Doonbeg including Shragh, Mountrivers and Drumellihy.
However the planning appeals body ruled the project would lead to an excessive number of turbines in one area, would seriously detract from local tourism and could result in water pollution.
Opponents to the project have welcomed the outcome and while the company has the option of challenging the decision in the courts- last year a spokesperson indicated they would accept the board’s decision.
West Clare Independent Councillor Christy Curtin feels they got a fair hearing
