Local Government Changes ‘Could Hit Clare Funding’

Clare's county manager and local representatives have expressed concern that Clare and the MidWest could lose out on funding because of the changes to local government.

As well as doing away with Town Councils, and lowering the number of Councillors here, the government's plans will also see the creation of new regional assemblies, which will be key in securing EU funding, and drive the implementation of the national spatial strategy.

Clare is currently in a group for the MidWest, but it's now planned that the county will be placed in the Southern region along with the likes of Cork, Wexford and Waterford.
