Clonlara Independent Michael Begley has been elected after reaching the quota on the fifth count in the Killaloe electoral area. Three more seats remain to be filled here.
A string of eliminations continues with successive counts in Ennis. The latest casualty is Fine Gael's Tony Mulqueen, an outgoing County Councillor.
Meanwhile, a first count result is expected in Shannon shortly.
