Local Authority Behind Only Dublin In Scale Of Funding For Refurbishing Vacant Housing Stock

Clare County Council is receiving a larger scale of funding than almost all other local authorities in the country for returning vacant houses to use.

It comes as representatives here have raised concern about a new centralised Department of Housing funding model, which will mean the local authority will need to raise further funds to refurbish empty property.

Around 80 vacant houses are returned to stock by the Council in Clare each year, with each social house requiring around €1,600 per house per year to maintain standards.
