There were reductions in numbers in all areas of the county, with largest portion of those joining the dole queues in April in the Ennis area, where 2403 people signed on, up from 2440 the previous month.

In North Clare, there were 1,158 people on the live register last month, with 776 in West Clare and 606 in the East of the county.

The reduction is broadly in line with the national picture, however the overall figure for the county is still 22% higher than the same time last year.
