Litter Blackspot May Have Hampered Ennis’ Chance Of Claiming IBAL Top Spot

A litter blackspot just outside of Ennis could have hampered the town’s chances of being named the cleanest town in Ireland.

The county town has tied for sixth in the Irish Business Against Litter survey – deemed cleaner than European norms.

Clare FM’s Fiona McGarry reports:

The latest IBAL litter league survey looked at 40 towns and cities around the country, with Ennis coming out in joint 6th position, one of its best ever finishes.

O’Connell Street, Lower Drumbiggle Road and the Ennis Town Council Riverside Walk were highlighted as areas that were particularly clean.

However, it wasn’t all good news – the report found that there was “dumping on an industrial scale” taking place at wasteground connecting the Rocky Road Roundabout and Kilrush Road Roundabout.

This was termed as a litter blackspot, and Conor Horgan from IBAL says it blighted the town’s results.
