Lisdoonvarna Community Urges Hotel Owner To Listen To Concerns Over Direct Provision Centre

The owner of The King Thomond Hotel in Lisdoonvarna is being urged to listen to the locals, who have come out in strong opposition to a planned direct provision centre there.

From March 12th, 30 asylum seekers are set to arrive in the North Clare village, with that number to rise as high as 115.

Government agencies were due to attend an information evening last night but were forced to pull out due to the weather – the meeting went ahead, however, with locals voting 197 to 15 against the move in a secret ballot.

They’re primarily concerned with the impact on local services and these concerns are persisting despite the government providing an email update on questions raised.
