An unusual initiative to crack down on speeding in housing developments is being rolled out in Clare.

Life-size pictures of children will be stuck on residents’ wheelie bins in An tSean Dún estate in Roslevan in Ennis, following a similar initiative run by Mayo County Council.

It’s hoped that drivers have an emotional reaction to the stickers, and think of the reality of a child running out onto the road.

Clare County Council has also introduced a 30km per hour speed limit in 60 estates around the county and Mayor of Ennis Clare Colleran Molloy, who proposed the sticker idea, says it’s vital to crack down on speed.
