A brother and sister from Clarecastle are to be honoured for their quick-thinking life-saving actions today.
In June of this year, at Spanish Point, off-duty lifeguards Bernard and Roisin Cahill noticed two people swimming towards what they recognised as a rip current.
They rushed to help them, with Bernard using a kayak that he had borrowed from a member of the public to bring a struggling swimmer to shore.
Today, they will be among thirty people from throughout the country who will be presented with awards by Irish Water Safety in recognition of their efforts.
