Librarian due in court over alleged air rage incident

 

A professional librarian charged with being drunk and abusive on a flight forced to divert to Shannon is due back in court today.

Harold Albrecht was travelling back home to Vienna after studying The Holocaust in the US, when the alleged air rage incident happened.

He’s facing a total of three charges.

An Aer Austrian flight with 200 passengers and crew- en route from Washington to Vienna had to divert to Shannon Airport shortly before seven am on Saturday morning following an alleged air rage incident.

32 year old Harald Albrecht subsequently appeared before Ennis District Court where he was charged with engaging in threatening and insulting behaviour on board the transatlantic flight , failing to stop when requested by cabin crew and intoxicated to such an extent that he might endanger himself or others .

Objecting to bail Inspector Tom Kennedy told the court that Albrecht may pose a flight risk but his solicitor Jenny Fitzgibbon  said the 32 year old was a professional librarian who travelled extensively and presented the judge with a letter of recommendation from the US Libaries Services where he had just studied for five weeks.

He was remanded on bail on a several conditions including that he reside locally and sign on twice daily at Shannon Garda Station and is due back before the courts next Monday>
