Level Of Political Diversity Is “Very Poor” Says First Muslim TD

The country’s first Muslim TD, who was elected in Clare 25 years ago, says we have a ‘very poor’ level of political diversity, despite the fact that nearly 1 in 5 people living here weren’t born in Ireland.

Dr Moosajee Bhamjee claims change in our population hasn’t been reflected in our politicians, saying people usually want to become part of the community before entering political life.

The Equality Minister has previously called for more people from ethnic minorities to run for office.
