Letter To Taoiseach Warns Of “Long-Term Damage” Amid Delay In Transfer Of Shannon Heritage Sites

The representative body for Clare’s tourism sector has written to the Taoiseach warning of the potential for long-term damage on existing infrastructure, if Shannon Heritage sites aren’t properly resourced.

The Clare Tourism Advisory Forum is highlighting its concerns over delays to the proposed transfer of Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Knappogue Castle and Craggaunowen from the Shannon Airport Group to Clare County Council.

The local authority has confirmed that, to date, it has received ‘no committment’ from Government on a funding package, despite having requested a multi-million euro sum as far back as July.

The letter, delivered today, acknowledges the significant operational issues to be addressed and expresses support for the speedy transfer in the interest of the tourism sector, the regional economy and Shannon Heritage staff.

Chair of the Clare Tourism Advisory Forum, Sean Lally has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that it’s imperative that the matter is resolved without further delay.
