Less than one third of those eligible for a driving test in Clare have one booked.
It comes as new figures from the Department of Transport reveal the average wait time for a test in this county is 25 weeks.
Largely owing to a backlog which began during the pandemic, just 430 of the 1,345 people eligible for a driving test in Clare have been able to book one.
A further 932 Clare people, who are marked as ineligible due to not having the mandatory twelve lessons completed, are awaiting a test date.
The average wait time for a driving test countywide is 25 weeks which is higher than the national average of 22 weeks.
Shannon has the longest wait time in the county at 29 weeks, with the estimated invitation week there not until January 2024.
Ennis has a wait time of 23 weeks while people in Kilrush are awaiting 22 weeks on average for a test.
Nationally, Dun Laoghaire/Deansgrange has the longest wait time for a test in the country at 51 weeks while Tipperary Town has the shortest at 13 weeks.
