Legendary Clare Broadcaster And Franciscan Friar Passes Away

A legendary former Clare broadcaster and one of the county’s best known Franciscan Friars has passed away.

Francis Noone was born in November 1932 in Woodquay, Galway City and received his religious name Cletus after joining the friars Minor in 1951, he was ordained as a priest in Rome in 1959.

He would go on to serve in friaries in Kilarney where he was appointed guardian as well as in Limerick and Ennis.

Fr Cletus spent over three decades on Clare FM and hosted the popular weekly Saturday “noone at night programme” which featured listeners requests, reflections and interviews while Cletus was known to also sing a song or two himself.

Fr Cletus will repose at Daly’s Funeral Home in Ennis on Friday, before being laid to rest after a funeral mass in the Ennis Franciscan Friary on Saturday.
