Legal submissions will be heard at the Disclosures Tribunal this morning on whether a certain witness’s evidence should be heard in public or private.

The Tribunal is examining if false allegations of child sexual abuse against garda whistleblower Sgt Maurice McCabe were used as part of a campaign to smear him.

It’s already heard a girl called Ms D made an allegation against Sgt McCabe in 2006 about a game of hide and seek but the DPP dismissed it.

A completely false rape allegation was then made against him years later – when a Tusla worker made a copy and paste error.

This morning, the Tribunal will hear legal submissions on whether Ms D’s evidence should be heard in private or if the media should be allowed to cover it.
