Legal Challenge To Cliffs Car Park Is Defeated

A private firm has lost a High Court challenge to try to close down a Council-operated car park at the Cliffs of Moher.

Diamrem, which has constructed park-and-ride facilities close to the Cliffs, had argued that the car park there was to be temporary, rendering it an unauthorised development.

They claimed that a planning condition stated the car park be removed following the construction of the visitor centre, but the Council disputed this and argued it was permitted to continue to operate it.

The Irish Examiner reports that the High Court ruled there was no basis for the claim that An Bord Pleanála didn’t grant planning permission for a permanent car park, and in any case Diamrem’s timeframe to initiate proceedings had expired.
