Legal action taken by an American heiress who claimed she was defrauded of millions of euro by her former Clare fiancée has been settled.
Thomas J Queally, who lives in New York but is originally from Lahaknock, Kilmaley, had denied the claim.
Sixty-year-old Elisa Rodino claimed that Thomas J Queally, who had been engaged to her, stole around about $4m or €3m of her money and then lodged a large portion of it into the Ennis branch of Permanent TSB.
The New York woman said it was moved by Mr. Queally from a joint account, and that Mr Queally, whom she has not seen for months, had been living a double life and had another fiancée while engaged to her.
The Clare man denied that he was ever engaged to her, or that he was unauthorised to take the money.
Late last year, Ms. Rodino secured a number of temporary freezing orders against Mr. Queally preventing him from withdrawing the funds, but yesterday the High Court heard that the case has now been settled.
No terms of the compromise were revealed in open court.
Ms Justice Mary Laffoy agreed to adjourn the matter to a date in April to allow for the final terms of the settlement agreement be committed to writing. Neither Ms Rodino nor Mr Queally were present for the hearing.
