LE Niamh Rescues 124 People In Mediterranean

The LE Niamh has rescued 124 people from a rubber boat in the Mediterranean this morning – and is now on its way to a second rescue operation.

The Irish Naval vessel arrived at the first scene, just off the north east coast of Tripoli at around 8am.

Two rhibs were deployed – 107 men, 14 women and three children were rescued and brought on board the LE Niamh where they were given food, water and medical assistance.

The ship is now en route to a second rescue operation.
