Latvian Man Charged With Murdering Flat Mate At Limerick Apartment

A Latvian man has been charged with murdering his flat mate at their apartment in Limerick earlier this week.

The 55 year old was brought before Limerick District Court this morning.

He is accused of murdering 39- year old Lithuanian national, Dainius Burba, between last Tuesday and Wednesday.

Arnis Labunskis was brought into court flanked by two detectives.

Inside the court the Latvian national was provided with the services of an interpreter and the court granted him free legal aid.

The 55-year old, with an address at Wolfe Tone Street in the city centre, is accused of murdering his flat mate, Dainius Burba, who would have celebrated his 40th birthday next month, at their flat on Wolfe Tone Street between last Tuesday and Wednesday.

Detective Garda Brian O'Connor, Roxboro Road Garda station, told the court he arrested Mr Labunskis at 10:38pm last night, and later charged him with the murder of Mr Burba.

Detective Garda O'Connor said Mr Labunksis "made no reply to the charge".

Solicitor Muiris Gavin, asked that, "all appropriate medical assistance be provided" to Mr Labunskis while he remains in the custody of the State.

He told the court Mr Labunskis "has certain medical needs."

Judge Mary Larkin ordered the accused receive all necessary medical attention while in the hands of the State.

She remanded Mr Labunsksis in custody to reappear in court next Tuesday.
