Large crowds are expected to gather in Miltown Malbay tonight to welcome home their Everest conqueror.
Local hotelier John Burke will be honoured in The Square tonight from 8pm, days after he flew home as the first Clare man to summit the worlds’s tallest mountain.
John’s expedition was all part of efforts to raise funds and awareness about Elevate, a charity he and his set up together with and his wife, actress Aoibhin Garrihy, to help support wellness among young people.

Around ten people have already lost their lives on Mount Everest during this climbing season alone and many bodies remain on the mountain from previous expeditions.
