Large Crowds Expected In Killaloe Over The Coming Hours For Foley Funeral

Large crowds are expected to descend on Killaloe over the coming hours to pay their respect to Anthony Foley.

The Munster and Ireland rugby legend is lying in repose at St Flannan's Church until 8.30 this evening and those attending are being urged to arrive early.

The voice of Shannon RFC President Noel Healy and over a thousand fans at Thomond Park last night as Anthony Foley made his final journey home.

The body of the Killaloe rugby legend was flown into Shannon Airport on ryanair flight FR 8, which represented the Jersey the back row wore, for his beloved Minster and Ireland.

Garda Motorcycle outriders led the cortege from the Airport to Thomond Park, and St Munchin's College, and from there on to Killaloe, where a further thousand people gathered with candles in hand.

Spokesperson for the family, Eugene Hogan says the ourpouring of support means a lot to them.

Anthony is now lying in repose at St Flannan's Church and will remain there until 8.30 tonight.

A major traffic plan in in place and Eugene Hogan is urging those who intend to pay their respects today to arrive early.

Bus Éireann is providing a shuttle bus service between Colbert Station in Limerick and Killaloe on the half hour between now and 5.30, with a return bus on the hour, every hour until 10 o'clock tonight.

The company is also advising people to expect delays on services in the Killaloe area.

Anthony Foley will be laid to rest in Reilig Lua tomorrow, following Funeral Mass at 12 noon in St Flannan's Church.

He's survived by his wife Olive, sons Tony and Dan and extended family.
