A “landmark” tourism project in East Clare is expected to provide a meaningful economic boost for the region.
Clare County Council has signed a contract with M. Fitzgibbon Ltd for the redevelopment of the Inis Cealtra visitor centre in Mountshannon.
The project, which will comprise a revitalised exhibition area, a reception area, an upstairs café and rectory garden, will be funded through almost €4.3m from the Department of Rural and Community Development as well as an additional 20% match funding from the local authority.
Also entailed in the redevelopment will be waste water optimisation works and public realm enhancements.
Director of Tourism Development with Clare County Council Leonard Cleary believes once the works have concluded in late 2024, the knock-on benefits for the community will be plain to see.
