A North Clare student has been nominated for a global surfing award after catching one of two massive waves that broke on the Sligo coastline on the same day this year.
Ollie O Flaherty from Lahinch is nominated in the Biggest Wave category of the Billabong XXL contest for a wave he surfed at Mullaghmore Head last month.

The 24 year old is one of five people worldwide to short-listed for the prize, with other competitors having recorded their achievements in Australia, Portugal and Spain.
The overall winner receives 15,000 dollars, with the announcement set to be made at a ceremony in California next month.
