Clare County Council has erected signage at Lahinch to remind beach users of the importance of social distancing.

The electronic signs were installed at the popular coastal location on Friday evening as large numbers took to the outdoors last week.

Photos of a large gathering of crowds at Lahinch and Kilkee during the week had also drawn criticism on social media.

Clare County Council says the erection of signs in Lahinch was in line with nationwide efforts to lower and delay the Covid-19 epidemic and urged people not to gather in groups in any public area across County Clare.

The latest figures from the Department of Health last night said there are seven confirmed cases of Covid-19 in this county – out of a national total of 683.

The Council also says that members of the public are being asked to refer to HSE and Department of Health guidance on social distancing.
