Lahinch Native Appointed Bishop in the South East

The Vatican has appointed North Clare native Fr. Alphonsus Cullinan  as the new Bishop of Waterford and Lismore.

He was born in Lahinch in 1959, while his family later moved to Limerick.

He later worked part-time with the Bunratty Castle entertainers and has most recently worked as Parish Prist in Rathkeale, Co. Limerick.

The soon-to-be Bishop Cullinan replaces the retiring Bishop Wililam Lee and will lead a Diocese which contains parts of Cork and Tipperary as well as Waterford, and has a Roman Catholic population of 152,000.
