Lahinch GP Issues Warning Over Black Market Medicines

A Lahinch-based GP has warned that consuming medicines available on the black market could cause serious harm to those who take them.

It's emerged that in excess of one million doses of counterfeit medicines and health supplements were sezied by authorities last year, marking a significant increase on the previous year.

Anti-anxiety medication, tranquilisers, cosmetics, slimming pills and steroids were among the substandard or counterfeit drugs which were destined for the black market in this country.

The Irish Medical Organisation is warning that people are taking a huge gamble by consuming these medications and committee member, Lahinch Dr Michael Kelleher says the drugs can't be trusted in the long run
