A Lahinch GP claims demographics are the main factor behind a suspected higher prevalence of cancer in Ennistymon.
It follows an online discourse which highlighted the high number of cancer related deaths in the area over the past few decades.

Meanwhile, the most recent data from the CSO shows the Ennistymon region has the highest rate of neoplasm related deaths in the country, which are abnormal masses of tissue that can be cancerous.
Dr Michael Kelleher says, however, the figures aren’t cause for alarm, given the advancements that have been made in treatment of various cancers.
