Lahinch Councillor Warns Absence Of Lifeguards Risking Lives On Clare Beaches

Clare’s Green Party Councillor is warning that lives are being put at risk by not extending the lifeguard season for the county’s beaches.

This weekend saw the hottest temperatures of the year so far, with thousands flocking to coastal areas in Clare, however no lifeguards were on duty.

Lifeguards don’t begin patrols in this county until the June bank holiday weekend, despite Northern Ireland deploying staff from Easter.

Lahinch Councillor Liam Grant says that local Facebook pages were having to alert the public about dangerous riptides at Lahinch and Spanish Point.

Meanwhile, a Kilkee Councillor is calling for the facilities at all of Clare’s beaches to match the offering we’re selling to tourists.

 

Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy says while he understands the limitations facing Council resources, that we need to provide a level of service that matches the expectations we’re selling.
