It’s claimed there is no reason Clare County Council should not redesignate Doolin Pier as a bathing area with a functioning lifeguard station.

An event took place on Doolin Pier last evening organised by a group called ‘Save Doolin Pier’ with the aim of promoting “local and leisure access” at the amenity.

A petition started by the group, which uses the slogan “Stop Clare County Council Turning Our Pier Into A Port”, has garnered 1,183 signatures online.

The Green Party councillor has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons that public opinion is very much on the side of Doolin Pier becoming a designated swimming area once again.
