A longstanding Clare business owner is warning that commercial rates charges are threatening the existence of small firms.
Donogh O’Loughlin’s drapery store on Main Street, Lahinch is celebrating 135 years in business this year, but claims it’s rates bill has increased by between 70% to 80% in the last twelve months.

In 2024, Clare County Council says its paid out over €6.1m to 2,730 companies here under the Increased Cost Of Business Scheme and that it offers realistic payment plans to employers struggling to afford rates.
Donogh insists that traders in Lahinch are facing an unfair burden.
