A north Clare Councillor says he’s not confident that funding will be in place to allow long-awaited works to deal with traffic issues at Blake’s Corner to go-ahead as planned.
There was traffic chaos at the notorious blackspot late last week, after a truck carrying a load of rock to Lahinch, hit a wall, blocking the route.
Long term works aimed at alleviating traffic congestion will see a new bridge constructed over the River Inagh, but the council has said that it will be late 2021 before they’re completed.
But Lahinch Fine Gael Councillor Bill Slattery fears that there could be a funding delay.
Calls have been made on an ongoing basis for interim measures to be put in place to deal with the issues until the works are completed, but the Garda has said that the resources aren’t there to place an officer on duty there during peak times.
Joe McInerny, of the Keep Ennistymon Moving Group, is calling on the local authority to introduce new by-laws, which would allow a council – appointed member of staff to direct traffic.
