Lack Of Roadmap For Clare’s Elderly ‘A Nightmare’ As Restrictions Set To Be Eased

A lack of clarity on the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions up to now is being described as a ‘nightmare’ for Clare’s older population.

It comes as a road map to reopening is set to be published later by the Government, which will see the majority of Covid-19 restrictions ending on October 22nd.

From September 6th, larger crowds will be allowed at events such as concerts and outdoor sports matches, while communions and confirmations will also resume.

Workers will begin returning to offices from September 20th, while mask-wearing will remain a must in certain settings.

It’s been indicated that capacity limits on public transport and a ban on indoor activities for children will be among the first measures to be removed, but a lack of clarity on the lifting of similar activities for older people is being criticised by Active Retirement Ireland.

The organisation’s Shannon-based Secretary, Kay Murphy, is hopeful today’s road map will gave the elderly community a clearer picture of what lies ahead.
