Knockalisheen Resident Hopeful Hate Crime Legislation Is Passed

A Clare based spokesperson for the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland hopes that proposed legislation around hate crime will make it clear for Gardaí as to what constitutes such a crime.

A petition calling for hate crime legislation to be enacted has been handed into the Oireachtas and anti-racism campaigners held a demonstration outside Leinster House this morning.

15 thousand people signed a petition calling for a bill – which would give tougher sentences for racially motivated crimes – to be brought through the Oireachtas quickly.
